Caretaker
I watch you from the window
tending the birdfeeders
with diligence & care:
cleaning, measuring,
making lists in your head
for what's needed next --
With a deft hand,
your cuffs unbuttoned,
you scoop seed and
unclog feeders.
There's a lesson in here
someplace –
even a sort of prayer –
the kind St. Francis
might write.
