Solstice Too
When dawn is
the high temperature
for the day;
when from daylight
to daylight,
the mercury will drop
with a steadiness
of intent
that suggests
less than indifference
to my heart
and its approbations,
I give weather room
to be itself --
the wind conversing
with our chimney --
and am grateful
for the indulgence
of shelter -- its kindly
accommodations,
as I search out
my warmest gloves,
shamelessly praying
for snow.
