Why I Get Out of Bed Every Morning
(FOMO)
I.
The day will happen
with or without my attention.
And if I don't summon
the wherewithal,
I may miss something
magnificent—
Like a collusion of clouds
casting otherworldly light
from a wet, golden north.
II.
This is not fear of missing out –
(Well, maybe a little.)
This is fear of
not showing up --
In something more than
my own head.
For something more
than my own thoughts.
So let me shrug on my coat
and get out the door
in sensible shoes –
Leaves are falling like manna,
and while the heart may
feel empty,
the world is full.
