The Lower Falls of the Yellowstone
Standing next to
the smashing lower falls
of the raw Yellowstone Canyon
is like witnessing
a Wallops Island night launch,
or holding onto the rail
at Los Alamitos
as a dozen quarter horses
thunder past –
The ground rumbles respect,
the air roars approval,
and the only right response
to such staggering sublime,
such earth-melting power,
–besides kneeling –
is celebration.
That this exists – and we are here –
to not just see – but feel –
Overloading every sense
we have –
and then some.
To rediscover what we've
always known.
And dance.
