The DNA of Time
The leaf-strewn rock
is slick with moss and mist
from upriver falls
that will carve a ravine
deeper than knowledge
can ever reach --
because the mineralized water
carries the DNA of time --
molecules of earthen memory,
redolent
with process and movement,
adaptation and extinction --
life dying to more life
in the viscous tincture of time --
long before man
stumbled into consciousness
and
presumed to subdue --
