….on a cool-ish rainy Saturday morning in southeast Virginia.
Bias
They say that deer
can perceive shades of blue
beyond the spectrum
perceptible to the human eye.
That seems unnecessarily unfair
given my love for the gradient
running from ice-blue and purple.
I envy what I may be missing
and wonder what sort of adaptational
advantage this acuity provides deer:
the better to assess clearing skies
and apprehend cleaner water?
Or to avoid flowers whose blue flounces
proffer poison like a tea-cake?
Surely, such a combination does not exist.
Surely, blue is kinder than that —
a sign of purity and protection
rather than threat…
On a grey day a wonderful image of clarity.

I always appreciate your comments, Michelle, even if I don’t always respond to them like I should. 😉
